内容简介
本书由3个部分组成:10篇英文随笔短文;约70首中国古诗及其译文;英文短文的中文译文。
第一部分英文短文中,作者从海森堡的不确定性谈起,回顾自身经历,谈到了中文及中国诗歌的不确定性,并将中国的诗歌和物理学中的夸克进行类比,说明二者都需要在更大的框架中才能更好地理解,中国诗歌的框架就是中国的历史,于是作者又简单介绍了唐宋元三个朝代的中国历史和生活在这一时期的七位诗人,杜甫、李白、白居易、梅尧臣、苏轼、李清照、陆游,这几位诗人也是本书所译大部分诗歌的作者。
第二部分选取了这几位诗人的主要诗歌作品,以及其他一些同时期的诗作,按照主题划分(战争、难民、老年、天气、收入不平等、自然灾害、贫穷、精神健康、气候变化、酗酒等,作者总结为:上下奇魅美真)。作者认为这些主题对现代社会有借鉴意义,因此将这些作品译为英文。
第三部分是第一部分中10篇短文的中文译文。作者祈立天希望通过这样的顺序安排,说明中国诗歌能将中外文化联系起来,说明不同的文化可以在诗歌中相遇,从而相互理解。
