内容简介

《胡适英文文存》系列结集了胡适于20世纪20年代左右到60年代初之间撰写的英文文章或英文演讲，它们大多都曾发表于颇具影响的英文刊物上，并对当时的中国社会产生过重大影响。按主题分编为《中国文学与社会》《中国哲学与思想史》和《民族危机与公共外交》三册，由哥伦比亚大学东亚系教授周质平选编。

本书编选胡适自1919年到1962年前后的重要英文论文及演讲27篇，主要包括关于中国历史、文化、哲学、宗教及中西文化关系的研究和介绍，既论述了中国古代哲学史从老子到韩非诸子哲学思想的历史演变，又对自汉至北宋的中古时期哲学（包括董仲舒、王充等）、唐以后近世时期哲学（包括印度哲学、佛教、禅宗的影响和发展、程朱、陆王）作了考察和分析。
